Schock Speaks to Pekin High Students

with one comment

Congressman Aaron Schock (R, IL-18th) showed up 20 minutes late to speak to senior students at Pekin High School as a part of their U.S. Government class.  His first question from the students:

“What’s the importance of being on time?”

I personally think it’s part of the duty of those in public office to educate our youth about government & try to engage them in the process, so I don’t have a problem when Aaron Schock talks to high school students.  However, I have to point out that there were some folks on Mr. Schock’s end of the political spectrum that screamed their throats raw about President Obama brainwashing our children when he gave his televised speech to American students last year.  This isn’t the same thing?

Big Decisions for Local School Districts

leave a comment »

Monmouth-Roseville District 238 is facing major budget cuts to make up for a $ 1.4 million deficit.  Scenarios include closing both Willits & Harding schools, or closing Roseville Elementary.  Details of the Deficit Reduction Plan proposals can be found on the District 238 website.  The Review Atlas praises the work of the Deficit Reduction Committee and calls for a “mature response.”  Recommendations will be made to the school board on February 25, and then the school board will vote on March 9.

The United CUSD 304 has not evaded budget woes, either.  How long will it be until we see a county-wide school district in Warren County?
